Professional Development Placements

Professional Development Placements (PDPs) are opportunities for teachers to develop and update their subject knowledge and understanding through a placement on employer premises. They are of particular value to teachers of vocational subjects who are looking for real-world examples and applications from local businesses to bring their subjects to life in the classroom.

Placements are very flexible and can be arranged for a duration and time to suit school, teacher and host organisation, though most last one day. They are planned, structured and focused to achieve the teachers’ learning objectives and to maximise the benefits for everyone.

From a PDP teachers will gain:

  • Hands-on preparation for work-related learning and enterprise
  • A greater understanding of the world of work and LMI
  • Business knowledge and management techniques
  • Subject enrichment and case studies
  • Learning outcomes and experience towards career progression or for CV enhancement

The school and students will benefit from having a teacher who is better able to raise standards of achievement by:

  • Providing realistic careers guidance
  • Teaching vocational subjects with greater knowledge
  • Preparing young people for the world of work
  • Applying new management and leadership skills
  • Contributing business expertise to school management (HR, finance and marketing)

Developing and maintaining partnerships with local businesses.
