Safeguarding your child
Insurance and health and safety
All employers providing work experience placements must be approved by the LEA Oxfordshire Education Business Partnership. The scheme checks that employers have the necessary insurance to cover students and that appropriate health and safety arrangements are in place. The LEA also insures students against personal injury that is not the employer’s fault. Parents/guardians of Year 10 and 11 students will be asked to sign a form giving consent for their son/daughter to take part in work experience. You will also be asked to provide information on any relevant medical conditions that may affect the choice of placement or that the placement provider should be aware of.
Risk assessment
The placement provider should inform you about any significant hazards in the workplace and measures taken to eliminate or minimise the risks they present to the student.
Child protection
Safeguarding of Children in Education (DfES Guidance September 2004), requires that employers have due regard for the welfare of young people in the workplace. For some placements it may be necessary to carry out a Criminal Record Bureau check with an employer or placement supervisor. Further child protection guidance for work experience placements is available from the Oxfordshire Education Business Partnership.
